Introduction

Late February of 2012 Mark was diagnosed with stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma Cancer. This is written for our family and friends who have so caringly expressed a desire to know of the current situation. We so appreciate the love and support that has been shown to us and we lovingly empathize with and pray for many of you that have had or are currently going through trials of your own. In love, hope and faith, Mark and Ane

Israel Trip

May 4-20, 2012 we visited Israel and Jordan with a group of friends. Garland Dennett was our guide.

The first 3 days of our trip to Israel we stayed at Ein Gev, a kibbutz on the Sea of Galilee, and visited sites around the area including Capernaum,  the Mount of Beatitudes, the Mount of Precipice,  and Acco.

Boat we took for sailing on the Sea of Galilee.

Mount of Beatitudes overlooking the Sea of Galilee

Standing on the Mount of Precipice with the Jazreel Valley in the background

Wadi Hammam Valley - Christ would have traversed this path between Capernaum to Nazareth

Nazareth - view from Mount of Precipice

Ruins at Capernaum - Christ spent most of His ministry here. Peter's home was in this city.

Beit Shearim - burial place for wealthy Jews including Rabbi Gamaliel

Sitting on a sarcophagus.  In Greek the word means "flesh eater"

An underground Crusader room in Acco

Ruins of a fortress in Acco - on the Mediterranean Sea

Now to Petra in Jordan:

Keeping Mark shaded from the sun.  Zelboraf causes major sun sensitivity  which we learned the hard way!

Don't have the picture here, but Ane did ride a camel!

Bedouins used to live in these caves.  There are hundreds of them, and they are really cool!

Remember this from Indiana Jones?  The National Treasury!

Steep cliff walls lined either side of the old Roman road.
The Jordan River in Jericho - somewhere in this area Jesus came to be baptized of John the Baptist

Jerusalem:

The Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount

Jews at the Western (or Wailing) Wall
The Western (or Wailing) Wall

Ruins just outside the temple wall - at night
Southern gate of the temple complex - Christ most likely entered here.
The stone right in front of the closed in gate dates to the Herodian period, so Christ would have walked on that stone.

A day trip - to the Dead Sea
Cave where some of the dead sea scrolls were found.
St. George's Monastery built into the cliff wall at Wadi Kelt

Mark drawing water at Jacob's well (now in the basement of a church)

The Garden of Gethsemane
